Create a beautiful Polka Dot Dragonfly Card

Handmade dragonfly card made using the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set and Polka Dot embossing folder by Stampin' Up!

Hi Crafters!
Did you all have a good Christmas? I really hope so! We took it pretty easy in the Crafty Hippy house. Having moved house not long ago ~ but being packed up since July ~ it was finally a chance to rest and recuperate. We ate loads of food and lounged about watching Christmas films and naff telly. Just perfect.

Love Polka Dots?
I do. The word 'polka' itself derives from the Polish for 'Polish woman' - in Czech it translates to 'little woman or girl'. Polka dots became fashionable around the 1920s, when Miss America was photographed in a polka dot swimsuit, and Minnie Mouse was created wearing a red polka dot dress.

I love the Polka Dot Basics Textured Impressions Embossing Folder from Stampin' Up! It adds a touch of elegance to any cardmaking or crafting projects. I used it in today's project.

Watch the video HERE.

I used the Dragonfly Dreams stamp set to stamp the beautiful dragonfly, and the Detailed Dragonfly Dies to cut it out, but you could fussy-cut using some sharp Paper Snips. There is a full list of supplies used to make this card at the bottom of the blog post.

I wish you all a very happy 2019 - I will be back in the new year with more projects.

Gentle hugs,

Create a quick and easy Mermaid 'Dream Big' card with the Magical Mermaid stamp set

Create a Call Me Clover handmade mermaid card using the Magical Mermaid stamp set by Stampin' Up!

Dream Big!!
I love the Magical Mermaid stamp set by Stampin' Up! You can create hundreds of amazing looks by changing the colour of her tail or hair, or the background, such as the weeds.

I kept today's project background really simple - I stamped the weeds in one colour - Blueberry Bushel - and concentrated on colouring the hair and tail.

You can watch the video HERE

I used a Blender Pen and a selection of Classic Stampin' Pads to colour the tail - I went with the In Colour 2018-2020 Classic Stampin' Pad Collection - Blueberry BushelLovely LipstickPineapple PunchGrapefruit Grove, and Call Me Clover.

I teamed Magical Mermaid (also available in Wood Mount) with the Labeler Alphabet - this means you can create any sentiment you want, meaning you can create mermaid cards for any occasion. Embossing in Silver, Gold or Copper means you can add an extra level of depth and dimension to your card.

There is a full list of supplies at the bottom of this page. If you have this stamp set already I'd love to see your creations! Send them in using the email address at the top of the page - I'd love to share them if you're willing.

Back soon with another project,

Happy Christmas Eve!
Today's card has been made with the Sheltering Tree stamp set and bears the words 'Thanks for Being You'.

Watch the video here.

Followers of this blog will recognise that I often use unconventional colours in my stamping. Today's project is no exception - I love the unusual mix of Balmy Blue, Early Espresso, Flirty Flamingo and Gorgeous Grape. A full list of supplies is at the bottom of this blog post.

So Saffron and Balmy Blue Beautiful You masked card

So Saffron and Balmy Blue handmade card showing a lady in a yellow dress holding a parasol with the word 'celebrate' made with the Beautiful You stamp set by Stampin' Up!

Following on from the Beautiful You card I made last week (see how to use Masking Fluid HERE), I thought I would get the Pebeo Drawing Gum out again and create another card.

Watch today's video HERE.

This time I used only one colour for sponging, Balmy Blue, and instead stamped some images over the top in the same colour - creating this gorgeous two-tone look.

I coloured the masked area (the lady) with a blender pen and some So Saffron ink. I was really pleased with the end result, I was a bit worried that the two colours would look sickly together, but instead they created a look that reminds me of a summer day at the beach. Perfect for a dreary December day...

You can find the supplies I have used at the bottom of this blog post.

Simple Stamping Follow Your Dreams Dreamcatcher Card

Handmade dreamcatcher card in shades of pink - Melon Mambo, Calypso Coral and Blushing Bride, made with Stampin' Up! products

Create a beautiful Dreamcatcher Card in minutes with limited supplies...
I love #simplestamping cards. They are quick to make, beautiful, and don't require tons of craft supplies. All you need is some Notecards & Envelopes, a stamp set (in this case Follow Your Dreams) and some Ink. Plus a few basic crafting tools.

Watch the video on how to make this card here.

Today I used some of our coloured Markers, but you could use Classic Stampin' Pads and a Blender Pen to colour in the flower detail instead.

Handmade Follow Your Dreams dreamcatcher card in shades of pink - Melon Mambo, Calypso Coral and Blushing Bride, made with Stampin' Up! products

I used a gorgeous palette of Basic Black, Smoky Slate, Calypso Coral, Blushing Bride and Melon Mambo.

You don't have to have the coordinating Chase Your Dreams Dies for this set (also available as a Bundle saving 10%). I haven't purchased them, and as you can see, you can still create the most beautiful of cards. I simply used some Paper Snips to cut the leaves and the flowers out.

If you have any questions about this project, email me on the address above. Full stamping supplies for this project are listed at the bottom of this blog post.

Create a Simple Stamping card with the PS. You're The Best stamp set by Stampin' Up!

Rainbow typewriter handmade card made with the PS. You're The Best stamp set by Stampin' Up!

Isn't this gorgeous?
And it's made with one stamp set - PS. You're The Best - a pack of notecards and envelopes, and some ink.

Watch the video to see how I made it here.

It's what we call a 'Simple Stamping' card (#simplestamping), and it shows you that you don't need to have tons of crafting supplies to make a gorgeous card.

Of course it's lovely to have lots of stamping supplies; ribbon, embellishments, dies, embossing folders. Collecting all the products is half the fun, but when you're starting out stamping (or just need a quick card) it's good to create something very simple.

The full list of supplies to make this card is found at the bottom of this blog post, as always.

Learn how to use Pebeo Drawing Gum (Masking Fluid) - and create a Beautiful You card

Handmade bright Blue and Pink 'celebrate' card showing a lady with an umbrella, made with the Beautiful You stamp set by Stampin' Up!

Isn't this project gorgeous?
It was made using the Beautiful You stamp set and some Pebeo Drawing Gum (also known as 'Masking Fluid').

Watch the video on how I made it HERE.

It was such a simple project to make, all you need is a bit of preparation and planning as your project needs a couple of hours in between stages to dry.

Handmade bright Blue and Pink 'celebrate' card showing a lady with an umbrella, made with the Beautiful You stamp set by Stampin' Up!
Instructions for using Pebeo Drawing
Gum
I cover full instructions in the video, but here is a quick step-by-step guide:
1. Stamp your image in a dye ink such as Memento. Set aside to dry.
2. Paint the Pebeo Drawing Gum over the part of the image you wish to mask off. Leave for a couple of hours to dry.
3. Brayer, sponge, stamp or paint your project. Wipe any colour off the shiny Pebeo mask.
4. Rub the Pebeo off with your fingers.

Make a simple, non-Christmassy Christmas Card in minutes using the Waterfront Stamp Set by Stampin' Up!

Simple monochromatic forest style Christmas card made with the Waterfront Stamp Set by Stampin' Up!

We all have that one friend!

The one who declares 'Bah Humbug' every time December the first rolls around, or the one who loves Christmas but doesn't like all the 'gaudy' (their word) bright shades of green and red, or the friend who is so well styled that only a hand designed, Scandinavian piece of art, made by genuine forest elves, will do!

The Waterfront Stamp Set is perfect for this job, and this card is perfect for all those who are a bit resistant to Christmas but still want to receive a card.

Watch the video on how to make it here.

You could take away the little coloured lights if they're not you're thing, or use our Colouring Tools to create lots of coloured lights.

You could swap the sentiment for something else, or do away with it altogether.

As always the stamping supplies you need for this card are at the bottom of this blog post.

Take a closer look at Stampin' Up!'s Acrylic Blocks - A Review

Acrylic Block Set by Stampin' Up! - comprises of nine, good quality blocks named A-I to fit all stamps

What's so special about Stampin' Up!'s Acrylic Blocks??
When I first discovered Stampin' Up! the last thing I wanted to do was spend money on tools. They're boring, right?

I wanted to spend my money on the latest Stampin' Up! Stamp Sets, Ink, Papers, and Ribbons. I wasn't fussed about the bone folders, the Adhesives, or the array of Tools Stampin' Up! had to offer.

I went out to the nearest home department store and bought the cheapest tools I could find, including a set of acrylic blocks. They were super cheap, and excitedly, I loaded my basket up.

Very quickly I realised that the blocks I bought were difficult to hold, and were often ruining my projects when my fingers got caught in the ink. In my frustration my enthusiasm started to wane. Maybe I wasn't good at this crafting malarkey, I thought, and even when I finally designed a card that I loved, I'd go through tons of cardstock trying to create it without fingerprints and smudges.

I then went back to the Stampin' Up! catalogue and looked at their Acrylic Blocks. Yes, they were a bit more pricey, but they looked so much better. I invested in a set (and a few extras!) and have never looked back.

What are the best things about Stampin' Up! Acrylic Blocks?
* Heavyweight - nice printing pressure
* Ergonomic - shaped to fit in your hand, their bevelled edge gives good grip
* High Quality - still look like new after thousands of uses
* Labelled for Reference - correspond to catalogue and stamp boxes
* Multiple Uses - create visual effects with Aqua Painters and Ink Pads
* Choice - available individually or as a set (saving 10%)
* Storage Caddy available

For more information on Stampin' Up!'s acrylic blocks go to page 206 of the Annual Catalogue, visit the online shop, or watch the video above.

How to create a Christmas Card with the non-festive stamp set Waterfront, by Stampin' Up!

Handmade Christmas card made using the non-festive Waterfront stamp set by Stampin' Up! in Call Me Clover and Basic Black with Silver Embossing

Get into the festive spirit with the Waterfront Stamp Set
It's that time of year again! And unfortunately it has crept up on us a bit here in the Crafty Hippy household. We have just moved out of our old house, and have been living out of a bag pretty much since July, so Christmas has escaped us a bit. It's high time we got organised.

To get into the spirit I thought I'd make a card using a non-festive stamp set, which was actually easier than I thought. I decided I'd use the trees from Waterfront, and used a seasonal sentiment from another set (Winter Woods) to create a Christmas card.

Handmade Christmas showing black pine trees and silver snow made using the non-festive Waterfront stamp set by Stampin' Up!

I'm so glad I did this, it made me totally rethink this stamp set, something I have got out of the habit of doing. Often, there are so many uses for each stamp set, you just have to be creative and think outside the box a little.

If you watch the Video you'll see that I made a bit of a clumsy mistake with the sentiment, so I propped it up on another piece of cardstock.

Handmade Christmas card showing a snowy monochromatic forest made using the non-festive Waterfront stamp set by Stampin' Up! in shades of black, green and silver

You could change the framing colour cardstock, or perhaps keep this with a monochromatic colour scheme, so many options. If you would like to recreate this card exactly you will need the following Stampin' Supplies:

I really enjoyed making this card and it did make me feel slightly more Christmassy! I suppose I had better get organised, and make a list at the very least...
