10 Woodland Embossing Folder Projects

Discover 10 Woodland Embossing Folder Projects that are quick and easy to make.
My personal fave...

So as we come to the end of the year I thought I would share what my favourite Stampin' Up! craft product is, and 10 projects made with it.

Those of you that follow this blog regularly might have already guessed... yes, it's the Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.

Even though this embossing folder has been around for a little while now, I think it has to be my favourite Stampin' Up! item of the entire year.

It features beautiful Silver Birch trees, and adds an elegant touch of nature to your projects.

I haven't been able to stop using it!

I discovered that not only can you use it as a simple raised piece for backgrounds and segments of your cards, but you could colour and stamp the background, and even cut out the raised section of the image, creating bold, bright, Pop-Art inspired pieces of art. You can use it for cardmaking, scrapbooking, and home decor pieces, including some of the projects I'm sharing below. Read on for 10 ways to use this wonderful piece of kit.

Dark Forest Framed Picture made using the Woodland Embossing Folder by Stampin' Up!
 Dark Forest Framed Picture

This is actually the second framed picture I made using the Woodland Embossing Folder, you can view the original project below.

Much darker colours were used for this project and I alternated which way I brayered and watercoloured the cardstock - sometimes on the raised trees, sometimes on their negative. There are so many ways you could play with this idea.

See the more information for this project HERE.

Take a look at this Light Forest Framed Picture made using the Woodland Embossing Folder by Stampin' Up!
 Light Forest Framed Picture

This was the first framed forest picture I made.

You could use any combination of our Subtles and Brights colours for this frame, or shades of just one colour.

The possibilities are endless.

See the original project HERE.

Whimsical greetings card made using the Woodland Embossing Folder by Stampin' Up!
Whimsical pastel colours

So far we've avoided any real, forest-like colours! But it's all good and even pastel colours work well with this embossing folder.

To create this card I ran the Whisper White Cardstock through the Big Shot in the embossing folder then sponged carefully between the trees. However, I wasn't worried about doing too neat a job as that only added to the effect.

Once I had finished that I then brayered over the raised trees using Basic Black ink, but only lightly.

You can view the details of this project HERE.

Graduating colour card made using Bermuda Bay Classic Stampin' Pad and the Woodland Embossing Folder by Stampin' Up!
Graduating colour

I created this look by brayering two colours onto a piece of backing cardstock, and then made the trees with the embossing folder with another piece of cardstock.

I brayered over the raised trees and then fussy cut them out.

This project looks better than the photograph gives credit for.

You can find out more about this project HERE.

Night of Navy and Whisper White Monochrome Birthday Card made using the Woodland Embossing Folder by Stampin' Up!
Monchromatic blue and white

It's amazing how much detail this embossing folder gives, so much so you can use only two colours and get great results - in this case Night of Navy and Whisper White.

I think Navy blue always looks so classy. It's perfect for masculine cards, birthdays and weddings - any time you want to make something really smart.

This card was made by brayering on the reverse side - i.e. not the side with raised trees.

Thanks for inspiration goes to Terri Walker - this card is a near-CASE of hers. View this project in more detail HERE.

Sponging or watercolouring your background

You can create any combination of backgrounds by simply sponging or watercolouring behind your trees. I run my cardstock through the Big Shot in my embossing folder first, and then added the colour.

You can do this using our Sponges, Daubers or Aqua Painters.

I used a combination of Pacific Point, Pool Party and Wisteria Wonder.

Once I had done this I brayered over the top with Early Espresso and added my sentiment.

Using two shades of one colour

So I decided to use a lighter shade of blue for the cardstock (Marina Mist) and then used a Brayer and Night of Navy ink over the top.

The inspiration for this card came from Amanda Bates (thank you) who made a similar card.

You could use this idea for any shade of colour that you liked, shades or purple or grey would be really nice.

Take a closer look at this project HERE.

Non-brayered trees

In this project the trees on the Chocolate Chip Cardstock were left au-naturel, and I think you'll agree it works really nicely.

This card is similar to one made by Nicole Tugrul - thanks for the inspiration Nicole.

You can choose whatever colour leaves you'd like - in this project I used Tranquil Tide, Garden Green and Gold Foil. They were cut using the Leaflets Framelits.

Monochrome (with a splash of colour!)

This card is proof that sometimes less is more.

Basic Black and Whisper White are complemented perfectly with a hint of Crushed Curry.

The Baker's Twine finishes off the card perfectly. Create this card in any combination of colour.

Make this gorgeous Daffodil Delight and Melon Mambo Forest card using the Woodland Embossing Folder by Stampin' Up!
Pop-Art Look - Non-traditional colours

Here coloured card (Daffodil Delight) was embossed, and contrasting pink trees were stamped on background cardstock.

Once the brayered trees were dry they were fussy-cut and glued over the top of the Melon Mambo trees, which were stamped using Lovely as a Tree (also available in Wood Mount).

The result is this gorgeous Pop-Art style forest. This technique is perfect for cards, scrapbook pages and home decor projects.

Woodland Embossing Folder: Black, White and Yellow Birthday Card

Simple Woodland Card
So another Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder projec today, sorry! I am just so inspired by this embossing folder, there is so much you can do with it. This is another idea I've been sitting on for a while. I love the contrast of the black, white and yellow (Crushed Curry).

Step-by-step instructions for this card
1. Put your Whisper White Cardstock into the Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and run through the Big Shot Machine.

2. Using a Brayer, lightly roll over the raised segment of your cardstock using a Classic Stampin' Pad. For this design I used Basic Black but any contrasting colour works fine. Set aside to dry.

3. Cut a piece to display your sentiment using the Lots of Labels Framelits Dies.

4. Stamp your sentiment using the 'birthday' from 'happy birthday' from Watercolor Words. I did this by using a Basic Black Stampin' Write Marker and simply colouring over the wording, missing out the 'happy'.

5. Stamp the other part of your sentiment using Crushed Curry and the Labeler Alphabet Stamp Set, fussy-cut out using our Paper Snips, and put aside.

7. Assemble your card using Snail adhesive, and our fabulous Stampin' Dimensionals to raise the sentiment up.

8. Add some Crushed Curry Solid Baker's Twine.

You can have a go with any colour really - whatever takes your fancy.

Woodland Embossing Folder: Pop-Art Forest Card Tutorial

Follow the easy to follow directions and make a Pop-Art card using the Woodland Embossing Folder by Stampin' Up!

Yes! It's another Woodland Embossing Folder project...
Sorry I can't help it. I love the Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder so much that I keep creating projects with it. This idea I've had in my head for a while. I love the contrast of the black, pink, white and yellow. Not a typical colouring for a forest but really bright and funky!

Step-by-step instructions
I love all of the tree-themed products that Stampin' Up! make, I guess nature is where I find my inspiration.

Silver Birch (Betula pendula) trees are one of my favourite trees, and are common in Finland, a place that I hold dear. There are huge forests of them:

Lauren Huntley, Stampin' Up! Demonstrator from the UK takes a trip to Finland and admires the wonderful Silver Birch trees

1. Put your Daffodil Delight Cardstock into the Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and run through the Big Shot Machine.

3. On a piece of Whisper White Cardstock stamp your trees in  Melon Mambo. I used the Lovely as a Tree Stamp Set which is available in Clear Mount or Wood Mount.

4. Stamp your sentiment using the Labeler Alphabet Stamp Set, fussy-cut out using our Paper Snips, and put aside.

5. Using our Paper Snips cut out the Birch Trees.

Painted Harvest Sunflowers

Painted Harvest sunflower card by Stampin' Up!

Painted Harvest
I know we're well into preparations for Christmas and the festive season, but everyone loves sunflowers. They're bright and cheery, and they'll brighten any mood. They grow tall and proud, and they're found in many a country garden in England in the late summer and early autumn. Stampin' Up! have really captured their beauty with their Painted Harvest Stamp Set. You can buy the stamp set by itself or opt for the Bundle and save 10%

Here's some amazing facts about sunflowers...

- They're the only flower with 'flower' in their name.
- Their heads follow the movement of the sun across the sky.
- Sunflowers are one of the fastest growing plants.
- The spiral sequence of seeds on a sunflower head nearly always follows the Fibonacci sequence.
- Sunflower seeds are found in two ways: black and striped.
- Black seeds are used to make oil, and the striped seeds are used for snacking.

The Painted Harvest Photopolymer Stamp Set by Stampin' Up!

Create this card
This project is a simple, one-layer card. You can create multiples of this card very quickly and easily. Just cut all your cardstock first, stamp the front of your cards, then assemble.

I used Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry, Early Espresso and Garden Green, and Crushed Curry A4 Cardstock; plus either Very Vanilla or Whisper White cardstock.

All the products I've used are in the Showcase Reel below.

Alternative colours...
Of course you could create a completely different look altogether using bright colours - who says you have to create traditional-looking flowers for your cards? You could use some gorgeous Tempting Turquoise or Melon Mambo for a modern look.

If you've bought this stamp set I'd love to see your creations! Please send pictures of your projects to the_crafty_hippy@yahoo.co.uk and I'll share them.

A simple project
Today's card is a beautiful forest card that you can add whatever sentiment you like to. I'm going to take you through it step-by-step so that you can create your very own whimsical forest. You need relatively few supplies although you do need a Big Shot Machine and the Woodland Embossing Folder. Scroll down to the tutorial for a complete list of crafting supplies.

Create this beautiful card using the Woodland Embossing Folder from Stampin' Up! UK

How to make this card

Foxy Friends Christmas Tree Card

Use the fir tree stamp from Foxy Friends...
Today's project was created using a combination of three stamp sets - Foxy Friends, Hang your Stocking, and Thoughtful Banners. These are three great stamp sets which personally I use a lot.

I used Foxy Friends for the Christmas tree. This photopolymer set has lots of woodland creatures and accents, and there is a co-ordinating punch (Fox Builder Punch) that goes with it. At first glance you'd think that there's little you can do with this set, but it's more versatile than you realise.

Take a look at the Foxy Friends stamp set by Stampin' Up!

I try to avoid using too many stamp sets on one project but this time around I used the Hang your Stocking stamp set for the mini trees in the background, and the sentiment comes from Thoughtful Banners

Christmas Cards by Stampin' Up! Create this gorgeous Christmas tree card using Stampin' Up! stamp sets

I was really happy with how it turned out and I used this same design to create three more cards in different colours, with different items in the background which I will share with you once I have photographed them.
