Happy Holidays everyone!

Good evening everyone!
I hope you're all having a fantastic winter holiday (whatever you celebrate). Whilst I am not posting up cards at present, as I am taking a little break (my only one in the whole year), I am still lurking in the background and am answering any queries you may have via email.
I will be back properly in the new year.

Enjoy the rest of the holidays!

Best wishes,

Whole Latte Love!

Here is another sneak peek at the Patterned Occasions stamp set which will be available during Sale-a-Bration next year:

Patterned Occasions Stampin' Up! Sale-a-Bration

I have used Old Olive paper from the Polkadot Parade DSP (which contains all the lovely Getting Started colours) and Rich Razzleberry, which goes really beautifully with it. A perfect card for coffee lovers!

Here is a close up of the card, isn't it beautiful?!

The Open Sea

I started this card off by sponging some Sahara Sand around the edge of the Whisper White cardstock using a Dauber, and then using the log-book page stamp from The Open Sea stamp set I stamped all over the top:
Stampin' Up! The Open Sea
I then used Midnight Muse, Basic Black and Cherry Cobbler to stamp out various nautical images, and I layered them up along with a "Thank You" sentiment from the "Itty Bitty Banners" set:

Stampin' Up! The Open Sea
I think this card would be perfect for someone who loves the sea, nautical fashion or for the menfolk among us!

Wendy's Birthday ~ Part One

Well it's been a busy few days here at the Crafty Hippy Cottage... we've made some changes to our home ~ a 'new' sofa from eBay ~  and a bit of a Winter Clean.... I've been busy with all the Yule preparations, and our poppet has been busy with school and a children's Christmas party. I love the energy and the hustle and bustle of this time- although I'm starting to wane a bit now, and I look forward to spending the coming celebrations with a sit down and a glass of rum!
As well as all the winter celebrations there seem to be a lot of birthdays, too. One such is that of my friend (and Stampin' Up! customer) Wendy.... here is her card:

Stampin' Up! Patterned Occasions, Sale-a-Bration
It features a sneak peak of a stamp from the Sale-a-Bration set Patterned Occasions which will be one of the sets available to customers during Spring next year (more details to follow).

Stampin' Up! Patterned Occasions, Sale-a-Bration
I think the colours Wild Wasabi, Rich Razzleberry, Pretty in Pink and a splash of Wisteria Wonder are just scrummy together.
A very happy birthday Wendy!

Punch Party

Good morning everyone! Hope you are keeping warm and snug wherever you are, it is freezing in the cottage, we only have single heating in the back of the house so we have lots of jumpers and scarves on to keep warm - despite this I am still cold!
Here is today's card:
The butterflies are stamped from the Papaya Collage set and were punched out using the Elegant Butterfly Punch - not an exact fit but it works really well:
I also used the lovely scroll stamp from the Creative Elements stamp set for the corners, which you can see in the close up above. The three colours I chose for this card are: Island Indigo, Old Olive and Elegant Eggplant. They go really well together!
The little flowers at the right hand side of the card were made using the Boho Blossoms punch.

Other punches also used were: Bird Builder (for the leaves), the Scallop Edge punch, Scallop Oval and the Word Window punch.

If you would like to know more about Stampin' Up! products and how you can order them then please don't hesitate to drop me a line, I'd be pleased to help.

Stay warm everyone!

Wednesday, 12 December 2012

People often ask me how I find the inspiration to make my cards. Often I just pick a stamp set or a colour I want to use (or two); and then just open myself up to inspiration and build it up from there. This was one such card:
I'd decided that I wanted to use the lovely Woodgrain stamp from Stampin' Up! (£15.95) as I love the woodgrained pattern it leaves and is large enough to be the perfect background stamp; and I had three colours in mind: Soft Suede, Old Olive and Island Indigo.
I used a strip of First Edition DSP, which actually went really well and I used the Fabulous Florets and Summer Silhouettes stamp sets to create the flowers and leaves. I was really pleased with the finished product.
If you would like to order any of these products or if you would like a catalogue then please don't hesitate to get in touch; I am an Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator and I can take orders from you wherever you are in the UK.

Lovely as a Tree Christmas

Stampin' Up! Lovely as a Tree

As the big day draws nearer it's time for another seasonal card. I used the Lovely as a Tree stamp set and some Subtles Brads, which look like little twinkling tree lights. Cute!

I used Rose Red cardstock - which is actually fairly pink in hue, a different touch for Christmas - and an Early Espresso marker pen to highlight the branches on the tree. Surprisingly quick and simple - and I think very effective !!

If you would like to order Stampin' Up! products or if you would like a catalogue then don't hesitate to get in touch using the number/email address at the top right of the page. I would be very pleased to help you in whatever way I can.

Craft Kit ~ coming soon!

Good afternoon everyone!

Well after a super-busy weekend of baby showers, babysitting and seeing my family; I managed to find some time to finish off a craft kit I have been working on.

On Wednesday I will be giving you all the juicy details of the kit I have designed for you to buy; which will be available from Crafty Hippy very soon! There will be a special button on the website so that you can purchase it directly from me.

The kit costs £26.50 including postage to the UK, and contains materials to make 8 cards of 4 designs, plus free instructions. I have used the simply gorgeous Comfort Cafe Designer Series Paper - which I think you'll all love. Here is the paper if you've never seen it before:

How exciting!! Until then!

Niki's Suprise Baby Shower

Yesterday I had the joy of going to the secret baby shower of one of my friends (and customers) Niki.
Having told Niki on Thursday night (at one of my classes) that I was wayyyy too busy to see her this weekend(!), I was in on the surprise and waited eagerly at her sister's house to shout "SURPRISE" as she walked in.
As you can imagine she was really touched and chuffed to bits, here is the card I made her:

I know Niki is having a boy; so I used Marina Mist blue as the main colour of the card but couldn't resist adding some other "nursery" style colours - So Saffron yellow and "Regal Rose" pink, which complemented the Marina Mist beautifully.
I used the Papillon Potpourri stamp set and matching "Elegant Butterfly" punch (butterflies, again!) to decorate the card:

I'd like to wish you lots of love, congratulations, and all the very best for the impending birth of your son, Niki - I can't wait for a cuddle!

Recycled Wrapping Paper

I get so much brown packaging paper when I receive my goodies from Stampin' Up! I decided to do something with it (thanks for the inspiration Ms Terry!).

I decided to recycle it into some gorgeous Christmas/Yule paper by using my Christmas Deer stamp and using some Early Espresso ink:

I then used it to wrap my gifts; as simple as that!
It has a shabby-chic, almost rustic Christmassy feel to it, it saved me lots of money and I no longer feel quite so bad about the amount of paper I have been receiving.

I really love it! What do you think??

A Butterfly Birthday

I have been using my Elegant Butterfly Punch lots, as you may have noticed! Butterflies are bang on trend and never seem to go out of favour; they are always a popular choice for birthday cards and wedding stationery.
Here is the card I gave Jane for her birthday back on Sunday:
Stampin' Up! Daydream Medallions, Elegant Butterfly Punch, Silver Glimmer Paper
I've punched out a butterfly in the wonderful Silver Glimmer Paper that Stampin' Up! offer (available also in red) which I have mounted on a piece of Elegant Eggplant that I have cut out using the Blossom Punch. I've attached them using an Antique Brad.
The background is a piece of First Edition Designer Series Paper, I daubed around the edge with some Soft Suede ink to give it a distressed look. The pattern you can see stamped is in Early Espresso (as is the sentiment in the corner) and is from the Daydream Medallions set that you saw me using earlier in the week.
For the inside of the card I used a Silver Dazzle Marker, which I have to say writes absolutely beautifully, and I would definitely recommend:
Stampin' Up! Silver Dazzle Marker
These markers are also available in Gold and cost £3.25 - they are perfect for Christmas cards and for jazzing up any card that does not have a white insert to write on. You can order any of the products I have shown here, please get in touch!

Melon Mambo Florets

Stampin' Up! Melon Mambo, Fabulous Florets

Here is a bright, punchy card made with all sorts of Stampin' Up! goodies. I wanted to make a card using Melon Mambo, which I chose, and then built my card around that colour. Old Olive turned out to be a good colour combination, teamed with the Early Espresso.

This would make a perfect summery thank you card, or a lovely birthday card if you change the sentiment.

If you'd like to make this card here is a quick run down of the products you'll need:

Stamp sets: Fabulous Florets, Itty Bitty Banners,
Cardstock: Melon Mambo, Old Olive
Paper: First Edition Designer Series Paper
Ink: Early Espresso
Punches: Elegant Butterfly Punch
Dies: Bitty Banners Framelits Dies
Other: SNAIL adhesive, Pearls, Stampin' Dimensionals (sticky foam pads), Big Shot

All of these are available through me as I can take orders from wherever you are in the UK (you don't need to be local). Please contact me at or on 07896 314573 if you would like to order, or if you would like me to send you out a Stampin' Up! catalogue. I would be happy to help!

Jane's Birthday

Good morning everyone.

Today we have a non-papercraft post for a change, more Stampin' Up! to come tomorrow.

It was my lovely friend (and Stampin' Up! downline) Jane's birthday on Sunday, as she is someone who really appreciates handmade gifts I decided to take the opportunity to make her presents.

I made her a bracelet, with some earrings to match, that are undoubtedly her style.

The bracelet features a ceramic bead from a set of aztec style beads. The rest of the beads (including the teeny, weeny small round ones) are all gemstones. Jane absolutely loves blues and pinks (as well as any colour really) so I think this bracelet is just perfect for her.
The earrings feature leaves, as well as her favourite colours. She really loved them and I really enjoyed making them... I haven't made jewellery for a long time and will be trying to find the time to do a bit more!

Happy Birthday Janey!!

Papaya Collage

And the Papaya Collage is out again!! Hope you lot aren't bored of it, there are bound to be more cards on the way with this set as I can't stop playing with it. The above graphic shows you what comes in the set. The photograph of the card I made (below) doesn't really do it justice. I'll have to get a picture of the roses close-up ~ the print quality is just astounding.

Such a versatile set. You really can do so much with it. I think the plant and the roses are especially versatile and can be teamed with all sorts of other sets.
If you want to copy my card you'll need:
Inks: Sahara Sand, Soft Suede, Baja Breeze, Cherry Cobbler
Stamps: Papaya Collage, Delightful Dozen (sentiment) and En Francais (background)
Cardstock: Whisper White, Soft Suede
Accessories: Scissors, SNAIL glue, Stampin' Dimensionals (sticky foam pads)
All these can be ordered through me as I am an official Stampin' Up! Independent Demonstrator, you can only buy Stampin' Up! through Demos like me. You can order from anywhere in the UK, France, Germany, Austria and The Netherlands.

Elegant Butterfly

The Elegant Butterfly Punch has been getting a lot of use this week, I can't resist it. I've also used the "Beautiful Wings" Embossilits with the Big Shot to cut out the smaller butterflies that you can see in this card. I went for Old Olive as that shade of green compliments the Melon Mambo and Early Espresso perfectly.

On the First Edition DSP (Designer Series Paper) I inked on a medallion from the Daydream Medallions set in the Early Espresso to tie it all in. Sentiment is punched using the Word Window Punch and comes from the Teeny Tiny Sentiments set. Pearls added for decoration.

Such a simple card but the trick here is layering all the elements up to create a truly elegant card.

Fun with Brayers

As we haven't had a technique post for ages ~ and it's been an age since I got the brayer out ~ I thought I would post up this bright, sunset inspired card.
I actually made this card not long after Convention, back at the beginning of Novemver, but somehow it was missed! It is made using the emboss resist technique.

Using Versamark and some black "Stampin' Emboss" powder (£3.95 - available through me from Stampin' Up! ) I embossed a gorgeous flower and the wonderful sentiment "The earth laughs in flowers" (by E.E Cummings) from the Fabulous Florets set. The embossing powder comes in a 14g pot and will last you for hundreds of cards.

I then got my brayer and rolled some Tangerine Tango (a colour I've been trying to get more use out of) over the top of the embossed image. I then went over a second time with some Daffodil Delight, to really add to those warm, sunshiney tones. A brayer is an ink roller that creates some really wonderful effects - Stampin' Up! sell these as well and cost £10.95, I'd definitely recommend you invest in one if you don't have one already.

You can see from the picture below that the embossed part of the image is still lovely and shiny after the application of the ink,  and really pops.
