A Happy Samhain to you! Lovely as a Tree card

Samhain

A very happy Samhain to those who celebrate!

For those not in the know, Samhain is a Celtic festival marking the end of the harvest season, and the start of the journey to winter and the 'dark half' of the year.  It is a time when we consider ourselves closer to the next world, so we spend some time thinking about our ancestors and those close to us that have passed over.

At the Crafty Hippy Homestead we usually celebrate with a seasonal feast and leave a place setting laid for any of our ancestors who may be passing through - they are welcome to feast with us. It is a mark of respect, and I believe the British Army do a similar thing for fallen soldiers at some of their dinners.

Lovely as a Tree stamp set, Stampin' Up!

Today is such a special day and so I thought I'd celebrate today with a nature-inspired card, and of course that means trees!

I've used the Lovely as a Tree stamp set, which is a Stampin' Up! customer favourite and has been around for many years now. I use this stamp set fairly frequently and it is used a lot for creating snowy Christmas cards (Google it and you'll find so many amazing projects).

Lovely as a Tree stamp set, Stampin' Up!

The sentiment is of course from Lord of the Rings (from Aragorn's Song) and is from the Glamper Greetings stamp set, which has become another firm favourite of mine. Being a huge Lord of the Rings fan I had to buy it for this sentiment alone!

I used Emerald Envy and Always Artichoke ink pads. All the items can be found in the Online Stampin' Up! Store.

I hope you all have a blessed Samhain; may the turning of the year bring you strength and joy.
Lots of love,

Simple Techniques - Stepping Up Cards

Today I am sharing the simple technique of 'Stepping Up' cards. When you Step Up a project you take it to another level by adding extra features or embellishments to create another look.

Watercolor Words, Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

Take my simple card above. It is a beautiful card in its own right and I'd have no problem at all giving it to a friend, but I'd like to add an extra something...

The card below is the same card (although there is a little extra stamping) but it has the addition of some embellishments - in this case sequins. This has completely changed the look of the card and has added some extra texture and depth.

It's as simple as that!

Watercolor Words, Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

I used Watercolor Words for the 'Hope' sentiment, and Blooms & Wishes for the flowers. I have used complementing colours Wisteria Wonder and Blushing Bride along with the Tuxedo Memento Black Ink, which is a fantastic crisp black ink pad.

The sequins are the Fancy Frost Sequins, which are found in the Autumn Winter Catalogue. If you have any questions about Stampin' Up! please don't hesitate to contact me on the email address below.

I'll be back tomorrow with more posts and news,

Snappy Birthday Card ~ Seasonal Decorative Masks

Today's project looks like it has Designer Series Paper as the base, but in actual fact I have used a mask and the sponging technique to create an interesting background.

Pun Intended Stamp Set Stampin' Up!

I used the Seasonal Decorative Masks (£5.50) which are found on page 43 of the Autumn Winter Catalogue. There are four in the pack and you can sponge, stamp, spritz or brayer over the top of them:
Seasonal Decorative Masks Stampin' Up!

You could use traditional Christmas colours red and green, use a neutral colour (like I have in today's project) or even sponge a rainbow of colour to create interesting cardstocks that add depth and interest.

The stamp set I have used is Pun Intended, £8.50, which is one of our Hostess Stamp Sets. As explained yesterday, these special sets can only be bought with Stampin' Rewards, which are earnt when you place an order of £150 or more. You can spend your Stampin' Rewards on these special stamp sets or on anything else you like in the catalogue. You can combine your order with family and friends to hit the £150 mark, or to go over it, giving you even more Rewards.

Love You Lots, Hostess Stamp Set, Stampin' Up!

I really love the simplicity of today's card. It features two gorgeous hedgehogs from the Love You Lots Hostess Stamp Set. Take a cute animal and a heartfelt sentiment and you have the perfect card to give a loved one.
Love You Lots, Stamp set, Stampin' Up!

Vintage Leaves card inspired by Christine Pyrch

Today's project is inspired by a card made by the gorgeous US Demonstrator Christine Pyrch - I haven't copied her card exactly, and there is no sentiment, but it was her creation that got me stamping this.

Have a little look at her site (link above) she has become one of my favourite Stampin' Up! Demonstrators.

Vintage Leaves, Stampin' Up!

I love the autumnal colours in this card and for those of you that know me well or visit this blog often will recognise that this is a typical 'Lauren' card - I use both the Vintage Leaves stamp set and these sort of colours an awful lot - so it's no wonder I had to CASE this - thank you Christine!

Back tomorrow with another creation,

Glamper Greetings - stamp set from the Autumn Winter Catalogue

Glamper Greetings, Stampin' Up!

If I have shared this picture already, apologies!! It is such a fantastic picture though that I don't think it matters.

These cards are creations from Stampin' Up! HQ - aren't they absolutely gorgeous? They've been created with the Glamper Greetings stamp set, which is one of our fabulous Photopolymer sets. Our Photopolymer stamps are completely see-through allowing for perfect placement on your projects.
Glamper Greetings Stampin' Up!
The Glamper Greetings stamp set is perfect for every occasion and you can decorate the caravan to represent whatever season or holiday is current. There are 9 fantastic sentiments, I think my favourite has to be the Tolkien quote. The caravan is simple enough for watercolouring with Aqua Painters and our Classic Stampin' Pads. I think this is set to become a firm favourite with Stampin' Up! fans, it's certainly one of my favourites already.

Back tomorrow with more ideas,

Papillon Potpourri & Morrocan DSP Birthday Card

Moroccan Designer Series Paper Stampin' Up!

Good morning all,
I thought it was a while since we had a butterfly themed card and it has been even longer since we had Designer Series Paper, so today I combined the two.

The butterfly is from the old favourite stamp set Papillon Potpourri, and is available in both clear-mount and wood-mount, and the paper is our gorgeous Moroccan Designer Series Paper and consists of 12 sheets; 2 each of 6 double-sided designs.

Moroccan Designer Series Paper Stampin' Up!

I love Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper (DSP) each pack is so beautifully designed and goes a long way. I don't think I've ever finished a pack!

I cut out the butterfly using the Elegant Butterfly Punch which co-ordinates perfectly with Papillon Potpourri.

The 'Birthday' sentiment and the scroll was created using the Number of Years stamp set and the Large Numbers Dies in the Big Shot Machine, all avaiable through me, your UK demonstrator.

You could always put a Rhinestone or a Pearl into the centre of the butterfly to finish the card off with a bit of bling...

Another Watercolor Wishes Card Kit Project - Plus Video!

Watercolor Wishes Card Kit Stampin' Up!

Morning. Back again with another Watercolor Wishes Card Kit project. I've also got the video for you to watch from Stampin' Up!

This is a complete kit that has everything you need to create 20 unique cards - all you need to do is add your preferred adhesive. I used the Fine-tip Glue Pen for the cards with sequins on, and SNAIL adhesive for general sticking.

This means for £44.00 you can have everything you need to get started if you are new to crafting and means the cost of each card is £2.20. This is less than a card in the shops and means you'll have ink, stamps and glue left over to start creating your next project, as well as some sequins and washi tape.

I'd really recommend this kit if you're new to Stampin' Up! or any type of cardmaking.

Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or would like to purchase this kit,

The kit comes with a booklet that shows you how your finished projects should look - you simply follow the pictures to assemble the cards - SO easy.

Sweet Stack stamp set and food safe Cellophane Bags

Good morning all,
Today we have a project from Stampin' Up! HQ - I like to share their creations from time to time because although many of you are current customers and already have the Annual Catalogue in your possession, many of you finding your way to this blog are doing so for the first time, and have never even heard of Stampin' Up!

Sweet Stack, Stampin' Up!

So this is one of their creations, found on page 19 of the Annual Stampin' Up! Catalogue.

It features a gorgeous gift of Smarties which are perfect as a party gift or as a favour at a dinner party or wedding breakfast.

The look of this favour would obviously be changed completely by using different sweeties, or indeed even just different coloured smarty. Jelly beans work well too.

Stampin' Up! Cellophane Bags are food safe and sturdy - perfect for treats and gifts. The top of the bag has been created by using the Sweet Stack stamp set, which is perfect for tags and cards when gift giving:

Stampin' Up! Flower Shop Rainbow Thank You Card

Flower Shop, Stampin' Up!

I saw a gorgeous card on Paper Into Love  (a blog by American Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Julia Carmichael) which inspired my project today.

This isn't an exact CASE, I have chosen different words and a different layout, but I have tried to use the same layers and colouring of this stamp. It is from the Flower Shop stamp set which is available in both a clear-mount and wood-mount format.

I've used the following colours: Blushing Bride, So Saffron, Soft Sky, Mint Macaron, and Rose Red

Thank you for the inspiration Julia!

Glamper Greetings Hallowe'en Card - Pineapple Pumpkins!

Today's project is a very sweet Hallowe'en (or as we call it, Samhain) card which is full of lovely pumpkin shades of orange, and features a couple of pumpkins in the picture:

Glamper Greetings, Stampin' Up!

Now, just recently, I've seen lots of pictures of Pineapple Pumpkins! Yes, you heard me right. 'Pumpkins' made of pineapples...

Pineapple Pumpkins

Pineapple Pumpkins

Pineapple Pumpkins
Aren't they fabulous?

To me this makes so much more sense than using a pumpkin, the insides of a pineapple being SO much sweeter (and easier to use).

This project has two little pumpkins, I wish they were pineapples now!

The stamp set I've used in this project is called Glamper Greetings and it's one of Stampin' Up!'s fabulous Photopolymer sets. You can decorate the caravan for any given festival and it has some lovely sentiments:
Glamper Greetings, Stampin' Up!
The supplies you'll need for today's project are:

Glamper Greetings
Memento Tuxedo Black Ink
Aqua Painter
So Saffron Classic Stampin' Pad
Smoky Slate Classic Stampin' Pad
Pumpkin Pie Classic Stampin' Pad
Pumpkin Pie Cardstock
Whisper White Cardstock
Snail Adhesive

I loved making this project so much, so simple yet so cute. I'm also going to have a go at making a Pineapple Pumpkin, too, this year - I'll post pictures up if it is a success!

Marimekko inspired card - Blooms & Wishes by Stampin' Up!

I'm often inspired by other designers that I love. In particular Scandinavian artists who are often inspired themselves by nature.

Today's project is made using the Blooms and Wishes Stampin' Up! stamp set and reminds me of a Marimekko design:

For those that don't know Marimekko, they're a Finnish textiles and furniture company based in Helsinki. They made important contributions to fashion in the 1960s, and one designer in particular, Maija Isola, helped make Marimekko a household name with her large, loud, bold flowered prints.

Marimekko are known for fabric, wallpaper and their fabulous napkins:

Marimekko Unikko

Marimekko Kasvu

Marimekko Juhannustaika

Such fantastic designs!

I used five colours to create this look - Blushing Bride, Crushed Curry, Elegant Eggplant, Rose Red and Wisteria Wonder, They're all bold colours but they work well together.

I simply layered the flowers up in no particular order at all, which is consistent with Marimekko design.

If you have questions about the products in this project, or about Stampin' Up! then please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Watercolouring Fairies with Aqua Painters

Fairy Celebration Stampin' Up

Another Fairy Celebration  project today.

This stamp set is Stampin' Up!'s first ever fairy stamp set, there is a clear-mount version (link above) and a wood-mount version available.

As I said in my earlier post of the 8th October, the fairies in this set remind me of the Flower Fairies of Cicely Mary Barker. My favourite Flower Fairy is probably the Poppy Fairy:
The Poppy Fairy, Flower Fairies, Cicely Mary Barker

I watercoloured the fairy using Stampin' Up!'s Aqua Painters and a selection of Classic Stampin' Pads. I'm sorry that the picture is not very clear - it's surprisingly dark now, I need to find a new place to take my photographs!

I think this stamp set is a must for any craft collection. The images are crisp and clear and easy to colour, even with a wet watercolouring pen (Aqua Painter). I recommend stamping in Archival Basic Black Ink and leaving the image to dry for a minute before watercolouring. Archival Basic Black is a permanent ink, making it the perfect choice for watercolour projects.

Please get in touch if you have any questions about this stamp set, or need help selecting the right craft products. I'll be back tomorrow with more stampy news.
