For those of you that don't know, Hillary's provide beautiful soft furnishings for windows, and as participants we were offered the chance to pick a square metre of one of their four beautiful fabrics to work with:
It was really difficult to pick! At first glance I was immediately drawn to the Safi Turquoise, but as I wanted to do something a bit different with the material (and I had an idea in mind!) I decided to go with the bold-printed Rayna Apple.
The fabric is absolutely beautiful; crisp and clean, with super-bright colour.
As many of my followers know I love fabric, but as I also enjoy working with card and paper I thought I would work with the Rayna Apple in a non-traditional sense. Consequently, I opted to use the fabric to embellish a Scrapbook page for our family album:
I took the colours from the fabric as my starting point, and raided my favourite Stampin' Up! supplies to find colours to match. These were Lucky Limeade (a retired colour), Crumb Cake, Basic Grey and Smoky Slate.
I used wooden stamps to stamp a forest-themed background and splodges of colour here and there. I stamped and hand cut out letters for the sentiment "Love the Forest". I didn't really worry about the background stamping being straight or particularly neat as I wanted a vine effect - and as it is a scrapbook page a little bit of wonkiness simply adds to the charm!
I selected part of the material I liked and cut a strip:
I then added the fabric to my project along with some ribbon:
I worked the embellishments, elements, ribbon and photograph around the strip of fabric so that the fabric was featured, but the page was still balanced.
I added sparkling glitter brads in lime green to space the lettering and bring out the lovely green in the material:
I added a bit of journaling as is traditional with scrapbooking- in this instance the latitude and longitude of our destination; St German's Hut on the South West Coastal Path, Cornwall.
"In a forest by the sea - our two favourite places"
Not a brilliant snap of us! But it was a very happy day. One for the album. We love the forest and anything green! The Rayna Apple fabric was just perfect...
